Personality:
Most people who meet Yumeko in passing see a serious, if somewhat impersonal, young woman. It's not that she's trying to appear aloof or unapproachable—it's just that's she's not particularly concerned with appearing amiable, either. More than anything, she's focused on doing her job and doing it well. She is the personal maid of Shinki, and she certainly doesn't want her performance to appear lackluster. That would reflect badly on her mistress, for one thing, and that is simply unforgivable. Dedication, determination, and tenacity are her main virtues.
When one spends any extended amount of time around her, though, it quickly becomes apparent the she's not nearly as stoic and refined as she would like to be. She has a quick temper, and is quick to leap to the defense of her goddess in both physical and verbal spats—regardless of whether or not she needs or has asked for the assistance. In fact, she often seems oddly protective of Shinki, telling her to leave everything dangerous, potentially distressing, or otherwise unpleasant in her hands. She also has a tendency to not forgive herself for anything she perceives as a failure on her part, and boy does she ever hold grudges.
When speaking to those that are not residents of Makai, she comes off as more than a little arrogant. Everything is better in Makai, you see, and if you give her evidence to the contrary... Well, you're either wrong or lying, and that's all there is too it. And if you were to insult the demon world outright,God Shinki help you. She can ignore personal insults well enough, but those directed against her home, the people in it, or its creator are serious enough infractions to be termed "sins" in her mind. She's also more than a bit suspicious of outsiders and their motivations in general, not trusting them after the "incident" that occurred in Makai a few years ago.
Underneath all that, though, she has... Well, it's not a heart of gold. It's a soft side, sure enough—it's just one that is very selectively applied, what with Yumeko generally only caring for the residents of Makai. This aspect of her personality is most frequently seen when she's around Shinki or Alice, the maid acting very sweetly toward them—or even doting on them, in an odd reversal of roles. The shift in her behavior is particularly obvious where Shinki is concerned; though it's hard to describe the exact way she seems to view her goddess, saying she idolizes her comes close.
Abilities:
Shinki refers to Yumeko as among the strongest of her creations and expresses disbelief that she lost when faced with the game's heroines, so it's safe to say that Yumeko is pretty powerful both physically and magically. As a demon, her physical abilities are notably above those of a normal human. She also has the ability to summon weapons from seemingly nowhere and remotely manipulate them, mixing swords in with her danmaku. (Lunatic version.) And, like most Touhou characters, she has the ability of flight.
